The new Barn features

Misters and fans are set on thermostats so they go on automatically.

Primary cages are hanging and all have automatic watering systems and shelves for exercise.

The roof line is vented down the center line with skylights that are covered during hot months.

Ceilings are 8 feet high at outside up to 14 feet in the center.

2 x 6 Rafters run between support posts to hang the cages.

The center line of the roof is elevated and vented to allow hot air out.  Sides are covered to just below the level of the floor of the cages.  Box fans hang below the covered walls to carry cool air into the barn.

The quarantine area is completely separate from the main barn.  It has stacking cages for quarantine of new animals.

Rescues are moved to "Patio" area after quarantine.  These and quarantine areas are the only stacking units.

Part of the barn has concrete floors and part has dirt floors with heavy rubber mats for easy clean up.    Fans blow down the aisles but not directly on the rabbits.

The old steel horse barn has a fiberglass awning on the west side with door that opens for air flow.  The lattice below and above the cages covers holes cut in the steel walls that allows air flow from stall to stall.  Cages are hung with 2 x 8 rafters.   These cages have doors on the front as well as inside to allow for twice the space for does with litters.

The old single flourescent lights on the walls have been replaced with 8 foot over head units.

The Flemish Barn is a sturdy steel Carolina Carport 14 x 41 x 8 feet high on the side and 11 feet in the center. with a steel roof. 30 x 48" cages are mounted on sturdy steel frames rather than hanging to prevent a lot of swinging when they get wound up!   They are hard plumbed with insulated pvc pipe with null cup waterers.  We keep bottles on the cages as back up for emergencies and for adding ice cubes in hot weather.  Shade cloth drapes the sides in summer and heavy tarps in winter.

The French Lops are in 30 x 36 cages and are at an angle to the Giants in another Carport.

Side panels protect cages from sun and rain but allow air flow under the cages.   Misters on the roof and shade trees keep things cool. These panels are removable for more air flow in summer and go to ground in winter to keep out cold north winds.

The new section of the barn overlaps the steels horse stalls for better air flow.   The container to the left holds the freezers for frozen bottles.

The shelves in the cages allow Mom to get away from the babies.  This creative doe even eats from the shelf!  No babies sneaking up on her!  The babies have pvc tubes to hide in outside the nest.

Misters along the roof line allow the box fans to carry cool air inside without getting the rabbits wet.

Large walk through door leads from Flemish barn to main barn allowing more air flow down the wide aisle.

Outdoor play yard runs 16 feet long by 8 feet wide. We also have portable playpens under the trees.    In bad weather we set up a portable inside the patio area.

Feed sheds and hay containers are insulated, sheet rocked and air conditioned.

steel shelving above hay boxes hold lots of carrying cages and keeps the spiders from setting up housekeeping.

A 28' semi trailer is insulated with 3" thick foam board and air conditioned and holds 7 tons of hay and keeps the hay dry, off the ground, the mice out and keeps it fresh until it is converted to mini bales.  We have added a 40" insulated and air conditioned trailer as well for hay storage.
