carrot.jpg (948 bytes)A WORD ABOUT  BUNNIES:  Remember that a rabbit is a commitment of time and love for 8 to 10 years or longer, not just for a season.   If you or your child has wanted one for a long while and spring seems the time to get one, fine but remember you will still need to care for it in hot summer months and cold winter nights.  Bear in mind the expense of veterinary care, proper housing and where you will keep it safe from predators, high heat and blowing rain. Please take a moment to review my pages on housing before making your decision.  PLEASE DON'T BUY A RABBIT AS AN EASTER GIFT.  IF GRANDPARENTS OR AUNTS AND UNCLES WISH TO GIVE A RABBIT FOR EASTER, PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING A GIFT CERTIFICATE SO THE CHILDREN CAN PICK OUT THE RABBIT THEY WANT AND THE PERSON WHO WILL BE CARING FOR THE RABBIT ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT THAT RESPONSIBILITY.  YOUR KIND GESTURE MAY NOT BE SO WELL RECEIVED IF A BUSY MOM DOESN"T HAVE TIME FOR ONE MORE RESPONSIBILITY.

AMERICAN SABLE $40 to $65 One of the 16 endangered breeds in the U.S.

7 to 10 pounds full grown. Very docile gentle pets. Originally bred for fur and meat they are now being appreciated for their gentle nature as pets and show bunnies.  Don't let the size fool you.  They are easy to handle.  Colors change a great deal as these rabbits grow up.  Very light, almost grey as youngsters, they develop to a rich mahogany as adults.

Sables  $65 - Non-showable Sports (pointed white and sable points) $40 While not showable these colors are valuable to the breeding program to produce correctly colored sables.

$10 discount for 4H, FFA or ARBA members.

This majestic animal is a deep sepia brown with lighter saddle shading that is most striking.

Sports also found in litters that are Pointed White marked or seal colored.

Tickles sleeps upside down in his tube  DSC00268.JPG (351544 bytes)  See how mellow they are?  Nothing scares them.

The big guys are fabulous pets! And if you are looking for a show rabbit these Heritage Breeds are a great way to save an endangered breed and have smaller classes to compete.

BEVEREN - bevern.JPG (348404 bytes)#7 on the Rare Breed List  - $60 We do offer a $10 discount for members of 4H, ARBA or FFA in order to promote this rare breed. Ryan York and pal confirm how sweet Beverens are!

A very old breed that has fallen substantially in numbers in the U.S.and is in danger of extinction  This rabbit has a luxurious rollback coat of fur, mandolin body type and fabulous personality.

Weighing in at show weight of 8 to 12 pounds (although some go to 13 to15#)  it is a substantial Teddy bear and makes a great pet.  This is truly a multipurpose animal once raised for fur and meat and now regarded as a rare breed it is primarily a pet and show rabbit. The soft silky fur is unlike any other breed.

These rabbits are found in Blue Eyed White, black, blue and chocolate (not recognized for show).   We raise all 4 colors. There are only a handful of breeders on the West Coast with these stunning animals.

LILAC # 10 on the Rare Breed List  $65 - We do offer a $10 discount for members of 4H, FFA or ARBA. Once bred primarily as a commercial meat rabbit, these have become one of the scarcest breeds in the U.S.  These rabbits are not only lovely in appearance but in temperament as well.  They weigh 5-1/2 to 8 pounds.  Since they only come in one color it takes little cages space to raise them for show.  Very good natured and they make excellent Mothers.  If you want a bunny not common as a pet or show bunny, this is the perfect rabbit for you.

Photos don't do these rabbits justice. DSC01013.JPG (354280 bytes) Must see in person.  Too cute for words or pictures.

If you are looking for a 4H project that not many kids have, these are the ticket.  Very sweet, curious, gentle, good Mothers and fabulous pets.  I can usually put together unrelated pairs or trios.

Not too large for kids to handle and yet are a multi-purpose breed.

$60  We do offer a $10 discount to member of 4H, ARBA and FFA on this rare breed.

Weight 8-11 pounds.  Raised commercially for meat and fur but these sweet tempered teddy bears make wonderful pets.  We encourage youth  breeders to consider saving another rare breed.

none at this time
THRIANTAS - $65   This is not a real common breed in the U.S. but they are wonderful pets and show bunnies.  Since there aren't many out there they are fun to compete with for youth and adults as well.  Their moderate size (4 to 6#) makes them good house pets as well as show stock.  They are great Mothers and I have always been well pleased with the gentle nature of this blood line.  The stiking red color is never adequately represented in photos.  You need to see them in person.

VELVETEEN LOP MOLOKAI1.jpg (2922 bytes) $60 Velvet fur and long floppy ears make these guys irresistible. I am no longer actively breeding Velveteens but can't give up having my hands on them.  The babies I offer for sale have been bred and raised by a dear friend who allows me to get my Velveteen fix by selling her babies. Wonderful sweet pets. Weight 5 to 7 pounds

You can visit www.velveteenlops.com for more babies available.

The Field Guide to Rabbits by Samantha Johnson

DSC01003.JPG (339901 bytes)

$19.95 plus tax  10% discount for 4H, FFA and ARBA members

This is the most exciting book on rabbits I have seen in years.  It is not only beautifully produced but well researched and full of valuable information for pet owners, rescues, pet stores, breeders, 4H and FFA members.

Topics include history, nostalgia, fur varieties, color descriptions with full color photos, descriptions of the various shapes of rabbits, weight ranges of the various breeds,  recognizing illness, bunny behavior, house rabbits, show rabbits, rabbits having babies, Breed profiles of the 47  breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeder's Association as well some of the breeds under development.  Each Breed profile includes recognized colors, weights, American Livestock Breed's Conservancy status for rare and endangered breeds.  Truly a fine piece of work.  Well written, concise yet fully detailed.  Kudo's to the author for a fine job on a huge undertaking!
